The Director, Field Operations, is responsible for driving the effectiveness, execution, and operational excellence of customer-facing teams. The individual will translate strategy into execution by leading initiatives across field reporting, targeting and alignment, performance management, and operational cadence, ensuring field teams are equipped with the right infrastructure, tools, processes, insights, and operational partnership to execute effectively. This role serves as the operational engine for field readiness, field execution, and launch performance optimization across customer-facing teams.
We anticipate this role will require up to 40% travel, including to our Lexington office.
Key Result Areas (major duties, accountabilities and responsibilities)
Field Planning & Architecture
- Lead the design and implementation of field force deployment strategies, in partnership with field leadership and aligned with business objectives and market dynamics.
- Lead annual and ongoing field planning analyses, including territory design, alignment, and customer targeting to maximize market coverage and business impact.
- Lead field targeting and call planning processes to drive field engagement and performance against quarterly and annual objectives.
- Translate field design, account segmentation, and targeting logic into field-ready CRM workflows, call plans, execution guidance, and KPIs.
- Plan and execute major and minor field realignments end to end, scenario modeling, decision support, change management, and on-time deployment.
Performance Management
- Establish and monitor KPIs to assess field effectiveness, identify performance trends, and recommend actions to improve execution.
- Support defining field-facing dashboard and reporting requirements, and partner with Business Insights & Analytics to design, deliver, and validate the reporting tools that enable data-driven field decision-making.
- Deliver actionable insights that support performance management, forecasting, segmentation, and strategic planning.
- Partner with Business Insights & Analytics and field leadership to define standardized analysis and reporting templates for Quarterly Business Reviews.
CRM, Field Technology & Operational Enablement
- Working with Business Insights & Analytics, serve as the field business owner of the CRM (Veeva) and field-facing tools.
- Translate field enhancement requests that are submitted to and built by Business Insights & Analytics.
- Ensure field adoption and use of these systems align with company policies and regulatory requirements.
Field Operations Infrastructure
- Oversee field credentialing processes to ensure timely and compliant healthcare system access for field personnel, including vendor management, record accuracy, and escalation handling.
- Lead the selection, onboarding, and ongoing management of fleet program vendors (e.g., Motus or equivalent), partnering with Finance, HR, and Procurement to ensure a cost-effective, compliant,
and field-ready vehicle program. Define reporting requirements that provide visibility into credentialing compliance, fleet utilization, and field operational performance, partnering with Business Insights & Analytics on delivery.
Incentive Compensation & KPI Frameworks
- Lead incentive compensation operations in partnership with field leadership, Finance, HR, Legal, Compliance, and Business Insights & Analytics.
- Own IC governance, plan operations, goal-setting inputs, payout operations, issue resolution, documentation, and field communications.
- Support leadership decision-making with clear operational insights on IC effectiveness, field behavior, execution quality, and launch performance signals.
Cross-Functional Leadership & Influence
- Operate as a high-impact individual contributor, influencing and aligning stakeholders across the Customer & Strategy Team
- Drive a culture of operational excellence, accountability, and continuous improvement across field-facing functions.
- Ensure all field operations activities are conducted in compliance with applicable regulations, industry standards, and company policies.
Qualifications & Skills
- Bachelor's degree required; MBA or advanced degree preferred.
- 10+ years of experience in pharmaceutical, biotechnology, specialty care, or commercial operations with at least 5+ years from within Field, Sales, Commercial Operations or Sales Force Effectiveness Experience supporting product launches and pre-launch planning within biotechnology or specialty pharmaceutical organizations.
- Strong expertise in territory design, CRM systems (as a field business owner), incentive compensation, commercial analytics, and field force effectiveness.
- Experience in rare disease is a must and gene therapy experience strongly preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to influence senior leaders and drive complex, cross-functional initiatives in fast-paced, high-stakes environments.
The estimated salary range reflects an anticipated range for this position. The actual base salary offered may depend on a variety of factors, including the qualifications of the individual applicant, relevant years of experience, specific and unique skills, level of education attained, certifications or other professional licenses held, and the location in which the applicant lives and/or from where they will be performing the job. The actual base salary offered will be in accordance with state or local minimum wage requirements for the job location.
US Salary Range$205,000—$265,000 USD
